If you play guitar and you’re out somewhere, let’s say you’re out with friends and you want to learn a song so you guys can rock out, but there’s no computer or chord book around. You get frustrated and let down that you can’t learn that song just because you don’t have the tab/chord. It’s not a fun experience to have (trust me I know I play guitar). Luckily Ultimate Guitar came out with a very cool app on the iPhone that allows you to search the tab or chord that you’ve been looking for.

Remember those days in the office or classroom when you and your buddies would take an old piece of paper, crumple it up and take turns shooting at the trash bin? I do, it was tons of fun. Then when one of my friends showed me Paper Toss on the iPhone, I became filled with excitement as I remembered all the good times I had at school playing it (at lunch of course). It is a great game to play when you have time to kill or just feel like throwing virtual paper balls into trash bins.

Have you ever started to play a video game, then for some strange reason you couldn’t stop playing it because you had to beat the high score?  You spend wasted hours staring at the screen and the world around you becomes a blur. It’s almost like the game has cast a spell on you and the only cure is to beat the high score. This addiction is created when you play an insanely addicting game. If you have never played Doodle Jump be warned this may happen to you.

It’s not cheap, but it is an attractive case.  $80 gets you CNC aluminum case, lined with what they claim is a shock-absorbing materials.

My iPhone saga continues…except this time I am about to finally get my hands on it.

I spent all day trying to order my iPhone when the pre-ordering became available.  I wasted a day of my life as AT&T’s servers would never allow it.  Instead, I was able to finally order the phone to be available “opening day” at the local Apple Store.  When such day arrived, I waited until 3pm, assuming the lines would have died, and headed to pick up my shiny new purchase…The line for pre-orders was around the mall and the front of the line folks had been there for 7 hours already!  Really?  7 hours they waited when they pre-ordered and all they apparently needed was to pick it up!

There are lots of apps that need to update their software to support OS 4.  Many developers have been busy during the past 30 days or so, yet some haven’t yet hit the deadline and Navigon is one.  Last night I launched my Nivigation software only to find it wasn’t compatible with OS 4.  However TomTom is now compatible, and do the point of this post…Twitter is too.

What’s in store in the Twitter app?  OS 4 multitasking ready and Retina Display optimized.  can’t wait to get mine on Thursday…

I had been a fan of the previous Bold for some time.  For whatever reason, as good as I thought it was, I failed to upgrade to the most recent 9700 until just last week.  My mistake.  The newest Bold rocks!

I have been using a few programs that I truly love.  I’ll write up each at a future date as I am reviewing them now, but here’s my short take…

I never expected OS 4 to arrive prior to the delivery of my shiny new iPhone, but I’m happy.  I’m in the midst of downloading it now and can’t wait to check out the multitasking!

I just recently became a fan of Expensify.  I have several phones (as you can imagine, writing for Apps4Phones), and it’s the first app I add to each.

It remains one of the most simple ways to handle expenses.  For me, if it’s not incredibly simple, I’m just too lazy…

Hadn’t really thought about it before but why did Apple wait all this time to release their own store app?

If you try to order the new iPhone 4 on the app, it’ll crash.  That’s not good.  However, the app looks pretty good at first glance.  You can get it here: Download

Apparently the overwhelming ordering on the Apple/AT&T site is causing the site server to fail.  I personally have tried to order my phone since 7am this morning to no avail.  For you conspiracy theorists, perhaps upgrading is permanently hampered while adding a new line goes through with ease…

If you like scrabble, then you’ll love Words With Friends.  Why?  Because put simply, you can play games in the cloud and play them ongoing when you’re free.

I currently have three games going at once.  One with an anonymous player, and two with friends.  There’s not much to review here as it’s basically Scrabble, but with slightly different letter scoring, and placement of bonus tiles.

Many folks have already reviewed the HTC EVO; (Gizmodo, PocketNow, Engadget), but I like reading some of the articles over on JKonTheRun.

It’s worthy of a click…

The iPhone 4 is getting distributed everywhere!  That’s good as perhaps lines will be less.  Or you can do like we’re going to…pre-order on the 15th and wait for it to arrive at your door on the 24th.

I really like the idea of this phone.  Fast processor, large screen, 4G.  What’s not to like really?  Well, except the short battery life as a result of the 4G.

Well, my hesitation has caused me to miss the first boat.  Sold Out across the US as we speak.  No matter, my Incredible (also delivery problems due to the OLED screen shortage) is working just fine for me!

Where is another program that is at home across multiple smartphone operating systems.  On BlackBerry it’s effective and I’m finding I’m using it a bit more and more.  Looking for something like coffee, weather, news?  It’ll find it for you.  Full scoop after the jump.

I am a fan of developers that can successfully carry their apps across platforms.  I happen to use more than one smartphone, and the ability to jump phones and use the same apps makes me happy.  FlightTrack is everywhere, and it should be.  It’s a well thought out app and on the BB performs well.

As you can see from the image, Beejive just got updated.  ...and yes, from our perspective it really does seem faster!

For those of you hankering to manage your DVR whilst away from the farm, your webOS (Palm) device is now ready for your sir.  Similar to what the app on other platforms offers, you can set parental parameters, browse and search programs, view your DVR storage available, set bookmarks and much more.  So far the app is getting good reviews for the app community on the App Catalog.

It’s still day one of the WWDC and after an iPhone 4 focused keynote, there are still many questions left unanswered.  For one, why the name change to FaceTime and not iChat?

To use FaceTime, you must be on Wifi, and that’s solely due to AT&T who’s already been crying about bandwidth.  In fact, I had already lost a bet that the reason AT&T raised their rates based on data usage was due to the impending video chat functionality on iPhone 4.  I was apparently wrong…

Personally, I’ve never played Farmville, and frankly, I’m kind of tired of my Facebook Friends updates being populated by Farmville news.  But it tells me how popular the game is, despite my personal lack of adoption.

If you’re a fan, expect this little gem to be released by end of June.

What does all this video recording mean?  For one thing, shooting video at 720p and 30fps, you can’t shoot unlimited videos without thinking a little about storage.  If you plan on doing much video shooting at all, I’d recommend you opt for the 32GB.  Bummer the iPhone 4 doesn’t allow you to ad an external card as well.

Add the optional $4.99 iMovie app, and you’ll be editing iPhone footage on your iPhone itself.  I’m really more anxious to see this on the iPad, but I’m willing to drop $4.99 for the iPhone version.  I’ve already tried a few iPhone video editing apps and they’re not too bad.  ReelDirector is one such app.  You can check out our take on 1st Video on ProVideo Coalition.

FaceTime: Real video chat on the iPhone 4 under WiFi only.  “Two cameras, two views.  iPhone 4 has two cameras: One on the front, which focuses on you. And one on the back, which focuses on everything else. FaceTime lets you switch back and forth between them at any time during a video call. All you have to do is tap a button.

Retina Display: “By developing pixels a mere 78 micrometers wide, Apple engineers were able to pack four times the number of pixels into the same 3.5-inch (diagonal) screen found on earlier iPhone models. The resulting pixel density of iPhone 4 — 326 pixels per inch — makes text and graphics look smooth and continuous at any size.”
