Trouble brewing in the naming…

What will the new iPhone be called? It really can’t be called 4G as in 4th generation, because it will be too confusing with 4G networks. We do know however, that OS 4.0 is in development, and as AppleInsider reports; ““remains under development and reportedly has a quite ‘way to go’ before it’s ready for prime time.”
AppleInsider goes on to say they’ve found evidence of multitasking support. That can’t happen fast enough. I can’t imagine that the iPad would come without such support, yet again, I would have bet the farm that it would have come with a camera as well. Apple is saving that to make me upgrade to iPad 2.0, or whatever the name will be…
The MacWorld review, doesn’t match the reader reviews.
Typically MacWorld reviews tend to be a little on the “better” side in our opinion, while typical reader reviews of the same product, tend to be a little less forgiving. Rock Band for iPhone is the opposite. Scoring only 3 out of 5 possible mice, MacWorld is tough on the new iPhone app. Readers however give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I just downloaded the app yesterday. The first thing I noticed is that – yup, I like it. After only one session however, my hands felt cramped. This is not the ideal platform for this product, if only for that reason. The only other thing I found not top notch, was that it seemed a little easy. Out of the gate, I was scoring top scores even on “hard” and I’d never played before. That makes us pause for a moment that the game may not have lasting power. However, the great thing about this and other apps is the ability to have in-app purchases. Already you can download a bunch of new songs that make this game fresh over time.
We’ll be doing our own review, but first take is that it’s fun and I think it’s worth the money.
Here’s the MacWorld review.

It’s also one of the top 50 grossing apps.
At $9.99 it’s not cheap but fans of Zagat have the ability to carry the popular data in their pocket at all times. Version 2 brings the beta ability to be a little more social as well.
If you’re wondering if the app is free for subscribers to Zagat, no such luck, but the mobile app is worth the $10 in our opinion. You can’t write reviews from the app yet, but it’s likely coming to a future release.

more »Create, design and order your new sneakers right from your iPhone.
I ordered Nike ID shoes once and it’s a pretty cool concept. One that I expect will become more commonplace among many different manufacturers. Nike has done a great job with the web version and the iPhone version is a good extension of that experience.
Sure you can pick colors, design, etc, but you can also use images in your own photo library to pull colors from. (not sure why, but cool nonetheless). You can create the designs and save them to your Nike locker. It’s hard not to hit the buy button once you’ve downloaded the app and started designing. Cool app and I can’t wait to see other companies do the same.
Really cool promo video after the break.

Android version planned by end of year.
Since the September 10 release Rhapsody has been downloaded over 500,000 times. According to our slide rule, that’s roughly 12,195 downloads per day. Not too shabby.
A great UI and a lot to like.

I am already a bog fan of this program! Let me say that going into this. For some reason, I have an unhealthy obsession with the Productivity category on the iTunes App store. Constantly on the lookout for that one app that will propel my productivity through the roof. Hint…it never happens.
This app has a great UI and looks at to-do apps from am atypical layout. I appreciate that because even the big apps like Todo, OmniFocus, Things and more are all generally the same with slightly different spins. Is this app perfect? Certainly not, I already have a short list of changes I’d love to see the developer include in the next version. However, for a 1.0 release, this is strong and has our attention here at Apps4Phones.
more »A simple Cydia Store app to help navigate multiple iPhone pages
One of the great things about the iPhone is the simple interface it presents to users. Someone who has never used the iPhone before can pick it up, and intuitively figure out how to operate the device with a minimal investment of time. The same cannot always be said for other devices (I’m talking to YOU, Blackberry Applications screen with your myriad of tiny obnoxious icons that seem designed to confuse and disorient). Apple has limited this app-overload confusion by putting a reasonable number of apps on a page, and enabling a simple swipe of the finger to navigate between pages. This is intuitive, and works well.
Of course, the page-by-page simplicity of the iPhone has a tradeoff. By spreading the device apps across multiple pages, power users may quickly find that they have many many pages of apps, and getting to the last page is sometimes several swipes away. If only there was an OS X Spaces or Exposè-type app for the iPhone that would allow you to instantly jump to a specific page without all that swiping… Well wish no more, because there is now such an app! Read on for my first look at this app, called Orbit…

I am a recent Google Wave invitee and have been trying to sink my teeth into the new platform. A recent discovery has shown that it can be used as a web app for the iPhone. It is not officially supported and you are warned about the incompatibility with your mobile Safari browser. Once you bookmark it and put it on your home screen, it opens up in what Apple calls “App Mode.” The bottom bar of Safari is not there and you get more screen real estate. It is somewhat slow, even on WiFi but if you need to get your Wave on when you’re not near a desktop, this can get the job done. Albeit, the job will take a while to get done but you get the idea. Last night, I was on Wave and checking out popular waves when i came across a developer asking for beta testers for his very own Google Wave application on Mac. Also, he said he had submitted one for the App Store for the iPhone and Touch. Once there are more people with an invite, these new ways to wave will be in high demand. Reviews for the app and future Wave apps will be up as soon as they become readily available.
